The Western Apicultural Society

The Western Apicultural Society is a non-profit, educational, beekeeping organization founded in 1978 for the benefit and enjoyment of all beekeepers in western North America.

Membership in W.A.S. is encouraged from anywhere in the world. However, the organization was designed specifically to meet the educational needs of beekeepers from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming; the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon; and the states of northern Mexico.

Find them on the web by clicking here. I've been a member for three years and find the quarterly journal a good read. The BC researchers have been publishing a fair amount of their research notes. I've not attended the annual meeting, but have been tempted by the 2010 offering in Salem, Oregon the end of August.

The photo is an aerial view of an almond orchard in bloom. California is the epicenter of the western US bee world for the next month. Lets hope for good weather and healthy boxes of bees!
