Dreaming about Gardening......

The seed and plant catalogs have been filling the mailbox and as day dreaming turns to gardening and working with the bees, now is a good time to considering planting a bee garden. An excellent resource to pick pollinator friendly plants is the USDA-NRCS publication: Montana Native Plants for Pollinator-Friendly Plantings. This guide outlines trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants by blooming period and moisture requirements. Pay close attention to those plants that are drought hardy and bloom at the end of summer and early fall. Rabbitbrush (pictured above) is my personal favorite, as it is a hardy shrub that produces nectar and pollen when most other plants have dried up.
