At last Saturday's beekeeping workshop there was discussion about alternative bee hive designs, especially top bar hives. Buck White runs a blog dedicated to beehive designs from around the world. The collection can be viewed at Bee Hive Journal. Lots of variations on the top bar theme - I'm intrigued by the interest in top bar hives by northern beekeepers. This hive was designed for tropical areas as a low cost way to keep bees. I'm tempted to build one and see how the bees fare in our cold climate.
